We help you enjoy nature right outside your door.
Woodstack is a team dedicated to helping you understand and take care of your slice of nature. We pride ourselves on making outside spaces look beautiful. We want you to enjoy nature even when you can see it from inside. There's a design principle in Japanese gardening 借景 "shakkei" ("jièjǐng" in Chinese). It refers to borrowed scenery. It's an ancient Asian garden design technique where a designer takes a distant view, such as a faraway mountain, and incorporates, or “borrows,” it into the garden composition. We employ shakkei from your kitchen or office window.
With that said, we think design and planning increase your enjoyment and benefit while decreasing the long term costs and types of maintenance needed to keep a landscape a joy benefit, not a deficit. Who really wants to mostly pulls weeds and invasives for maintenance?!
We tout the same benefits in terms of understanding climate and natural systems, seasons, how plants work, how animals use and impact nature, us humans included.
We believe when you enjoy nature you are inspired to care for it. And when you see it being cared for you can enjoy it. In nature, this is a symbiotic relationship - We and our environment mutually benefit. Michael Pollan wrote a book that has continued to guide Bryant, the founder's vision and values behind the work we do. That book is linked on our "Hot Tips and Quick Advice" section - hike over there to find the title.
